Best disinfectant to use when cutting calves

I have always used spray-on iodine in the past. Are there better things out there?

Catron II is good. I use pine tar. Keeps the flies away. Turn them out on clean dry pasture and they'll be fine.

I have never had a problem, I was helping a friend and he used Blue Kote (I assume that is what it was). It just got me thinking.

Keep knife in a little pail with nolvasan and water and just use blood stop in the empty sack and kick them out.

We knife cut at birth for years, never used anything for that.

The few we knife cut, we spray with BluKote - do it for flies but not sure if it even helps for flies! Just our "ritual".

We keep the tools in a bucket with the blue chlorhexidine solution. Have iodine in a spray bottle before and blue kote for after. Put fly spray down their back also.

Its probably overkill but that was per the vet and its works so far so I'm a little superstitious about it.

I have used spray iodine, hydrogen peroxide, some commercial spray that I can't remember the name. I have also pulled my pocket knife out, wiped the blade on my pant leg to disinfect it, and cut them. All have given me the same results.

Blue Coat has been around forever. Its claim to fame is as an anti-fungal...and guaranteed to stain everything it comes into contact with an indelible dark blue.

Put sharp knife in bleach solution. If it is hot, have used pine tar. Use stuff for flies like the KRS, but the big thing is letting it bleed to clean out danger of tetanus. Clean away excessive fat. Often use nothing at all if weather isn't hot. Rarely have a problem.

Chlorhexidine solution mixed with water for the castration tools, chlorhexidine scrub to clean the area, and a good fly spray/ointment when you're done.

Back when I was a kid we all used KRS aerosol can. Nobody at the ranch supply store has ever heard of it lol. So, I don't know what they use now that's fast and clean?
