Beef industry takes a direct hit!

Meat recall hits WalMart
Meat is a hot subject as the fallout from Rancho Feeding Corporation product recalls spreads across America and Canada. Over 8 million pounds of meat will be recalled, hitting big chains like Walmart, Kroger and Sam's Club. Consumers were urged to return household favorites like beef jerky and frozen Hot Pocket sandwiches. The food distributors involved have jumped from just 100 to over a 1,000 in the past few days.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2014 – Rancho Feeding Corporation, a Petaluma, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 8,742,700 pounds, because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection. Thus, the products are adulterated, because they are unsound, unwholesome or otherwise are unfit for human food and must be removed from commerce, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

By my calculations that is at least 8,742 head of cattle @ a 1,000 lb each, if not a whole lot more, if you consider the 60/60% rule of slaughter.

Where would a slaughter house get that many cattle, if not from a feedlot?
And if they came from a feedlot, what were they being fed to cause them be " diseased and unsound animals "?
Could this be an outbreak of PEM caused by feeding DDG and DDGS at the feedlot?

that plant killed dairy cows and bulls.
And do you have a source for that.
URL please.
Over 8,742 of them ?????????? Boy Cal. Must have some really poor dairymen out there!!
I though Cal only had happy cows.

Or are you just shooting from your hip?

You are a think tank member start thinking, you can do this loin. 32 head per day is a huge number to slaughter? Typical hobby rancher way of thinking.

Why the new handle ncliz 2 3????????
I got a new HP Wi Fi computer and therefor a new ISP ( Verizon ).
So I lost my old e-mail addy and all my passwords.
So I just re-registered as Ncliz 3 with my new addy and password.

PS If you'll insist in calling me Sir Loin, just put a Mrs. in front of it and all will be fine.

OK, and by applying the 60/60 slaughter rule it comes to 17,100 head, not 8,742 head, or there about

Hows that?

This was discussed the other day when it first came out

I find it funny that they claim the meat was diseased, but wasn't inspected ????
Unwholesome Meat Products Produced Without the Benefit of Full Inspection

I can't say whether it is a health risk or not but I get the feeling it has more to do with not following the proper protocol and in order to get a full recall and to make an example they are blowing it up JMO

You must switch ISP a lot.
No, not really.
I had Hughes net for over 7 years.
But lately they have been having problems. At least in my area.
Besides that, someone told me Verizon was the best for a web cam.
So I thought what the hey, I'll try it.

Seems to me it will be very difficult to recall meat that has already been turned into human poop. I'm with you they are throwing this big number out hoping the consumer will think hey they are really doing their job.

considering the products sold by rancho 60/60 can not be applied here.
Why is that? Are they not selling packaged beef to WalMart?

"Beef Carcasses"
Whole carcasses? What's to say the wholesaler or even resale distributor isn't grinding some or a lot of it for retail sales?
"Something" got into those Hot Pockets someway..I've never seen a beef tripe or beef lip Hot Pocket, but from the thread in Everything Else, I suppose it goes anywhere and everywhere.

Big ? tho is exactly what "disease" are they talking about? I would think if it were EColi contamination they would have said contaminated beef and not injured and diseased beef.
