You know you have PLENTY of space for a few more girls in your pasture! For that price you should have already had 'em in your trailer! :cboy:

    East Texas Lightning

I've had one death that I've contributed to lightening. Found her under a tree after a lightening storm, but she looked like she was sitting there with her head stretched out in front of her on the ground. Blood was coming out her nose and mouth. How long after the storm did you take that pic?

    Good pictures on Conformation

It is good to be able to see pics of what different terms represent but it looks to me that picture #17 is a heifer not a feeder steer.

Dumbest Thing That Has Happened To You

I locked myself in the cab of the tractor not once but twice. Both times in a back pasture with no one around and my cell doesn't work back there. I had to undo the side window and it really is not as easy as you would think to crawl out a window that is hard to keep open anyway and trying to...

Update on my new Brangus Heifer-& a Question

I've got several brangus cows and a reg brangus bull. I also have 2, 3/4 brahman cows and all of them are just as calm and laid back as all my other cows. Most will eat right out of my hand. Any breed can and will have hot cows, some more then others, but don't judge an entire breed due to a...

A new baby...Go ahead and look Beefy!

She was just barely bred when you got her, I bet they probably didn't even know unless they actually witnessed the breeding. Fine heifer and calf though anyway. They will do good.

What to look for when buying Cow/Calf pairs?

Seriously... If you haven't already I would go to your local sale barn for a few sales and see what comes through. Make note of the calves that bring the highest money and then watch the cows come through. Pay attention to the highest priced cows to see what is the market in your area. Watch...

How many on here lease land?

We lease more land then we own. Lease prices are high around here but not near as high as trying to buy more land. The hardest part is finding land to lease and when you do find it it's overgrazed and weedy, usually with poor fencing, and the owners want you to manicure the place and are real...

    Earthquake!

I lived in California when the "big quake" happened. I don't ever care to feel another earthquake in my life again! Every day there were small aftershocks and everyone made my stomach sink. If you've never felt an earthquake it's like nothing you can even imagine. There's absolutely no way...

    USDA EQIP PROGRAM

We've had real good luck in the program. Our field agent is very helpful and comes out to our farm if we ask for help and information. We have done quite a bit of cross fencing setting up a rotational grazing program. We are contracted for more fence, pasture legume planting, and livestock...

    Selling prolapsed cow??

I saw a prolapsed cow go through the ring 3 weeks ago that had it all hanging out, she went for $0.17 and weighed in at I think I remember was 980 lbs. So that's $166.60 before they take out all the commission, ect. If she were stitched up she probably would have made canner prices or at least...

20 Heifers in Dec, Calves in Mar.....Hmmm

I really have no clue but he doesn't look to have any brimmer influence. Possibly ra? He looks to fine boned to be from a lim and I would think a herf would have put some chrome on him. I'd say he's deffinately a Heinz-57 :lol2:

Not sure I fully understand cattle prices, a little help

With no death loss figures you are paying $0.50 per lb of gain - if they gain the average. In 90 days you should expect each calf to gain on average 135 lbs. I'm sure there are more money figures you need to add into the equasion, such as trucking costs. But, if you can sell them for a higher...

20 Heifers in Dec, Calves in Mar.....Hmmm

Those really are some nice looking heifers. They look to be in very good condition and also look bigger then 600 lbs from the pic. Thanks for posting. In her body condition I bet she will be able to care for her calf, but you may want to wean him early, just watch her condition and the calfs...

20 Heifers in Dec, Calves in Mar.....Hmmm

I'm not saying the calf weighted 100 lbs either but if you figure in all the 'other' stuff that is expelled in the birthing I'm sure the cow will lose around 100 lbs or more after calving. Just make sure and keep an eye on all of them, hopefully you won't have any problems but the chance is...

2 year+ old hay and 1st calf heifers about to pop.

No problem feeding them. I'm still feeding 2 yr old round bales that have been stored outside. We never even started feeding hay that we baled this yr.

20 Heifers in Dec, Calves in Mar.....Hmmm

If they have gained an average of 2lb/day (I'm guessing here) since you got them they should be around 665lbs now - but if 100lb or so is a baby in there then that is not good. They should be around breeding age now not calving now. If you think they are bred IMO you should get them palpated...
