I'm impressed that you want to learn this way and just wish you lived closer. I'm sure you can find someone who will work with you. Just get everything ironed out ahead of time and WRITE it down. This will ensure there are no hard feelings later.

I can't help you with information but just wanted to say I am really sorry to hear about your dog. It must have been hard for you, glad you had a lot of good years together though.

Give it a selenium shot and make sure it is eating to keep it's strength up. I don't know about your area but here if the calf isn't better then in a couple days I repeat the selenium shot as we are in a selenium low area. Talk to your vet about that.

Kind of off topic but still relevant- does your cow throw calves with hernias? We had a heifer with a fairly large hernia and did not keep her as hernias can be a hereditary trait.

How old is this heifer? Did you notice the lump before she was stuck in the boards (even if it was smaller) or was this something that appeared only after getting stuck? With a hernia if you GENTLY push on the mass it will push back inside the abdomen.

You are putting in embryo transplants using a heat detection method? Maybe this is normal in other places, here using a synch program is the norm. My AI course taught 45 - 60 days post calving for AI. We've always used 55 days after calving (vet suggestion) for AI and for embryos I would wait...

I don't know anything about Limos so I won't try to comment on the numbers. However, I would look at Calving Ease on the bull as imo it matters far more than BW. Also I would be finding out the accuracies on those EPD's. My suggestion would be to call the breed association find out the averages...
