What is the earliest that you have sucessfully weaned calves in a drought situation? I weaned several last year when the pastures were getting short at about 5 months and a little older. They seemed to turn out OK. Any experience with weaning any earlier than 5 months?

I have heard different opinions on how much ground feed to give your bulls when you have them pulled away from the cows. Some people feed them to fatten them up and others say that they will hold there condition longer if you don't fatten them as much. What do you guys do?

The wire had slipped off a t-post and was grounded out. Also I added 3 more ground rods. Had a baby calf slip under it and when mama tried to get to him, she decided real quickly that she didn't want to when she touched it with her nose. I heard it arc several feet away.

I'm actually west of Springfield. We don't have much clay here. I think I'm going to check and see how expensive a truckload of 1 1/2 inch rock would be. That should hold up better than regular gravel. May be expensive, I haven't priced anything like that for a long time.
