    Neighbors Crazy Cow

Cow does that to me, the cow gets wheels under her. If she doesn't load up, she dies of lead poisoning.

    Solar chargers

I've tried the solar charged electric fencers on a couple of occassioins. I'm just not really impressed with their longevity. I think I do better with a striaght 12 volt car battery powered fencer.

    red heeler

also try Craigs list. I see free red heelers comming up from time to time. In fact there were some free red heeler pups listed just this past week.

    Rustoleum

Rustolium is a good product, just be sure to get it good and clean first. If you aren't to concerned about the finnish quality, (ie. looking like a shiney new car) I would recomend brushing it on. You can get a thicker coat for longer lasting protection that way. The airisol cans work...

    How Does A Salebarn Work?

All of my cattle go to the sale barn. The culls, and all the yearlings.

    opinion on ral-gro

I use Ralgro. One thing you want to make sure, if you keep back heffers as breeding stock, don't implant them. It says so on the box. There is a type of implant you can use on them, but I just don't implant replacement heffers at all. I had my vet explain it this way. If you implant...

    how long before weaning

Most cows will wean their calves themselves eventually if you are slow to do so yourself. I generally wean mine around Thanksgiving time for my late February-early March calves. I generally have plenty of food going into the winter, and the cows are always in good condition also going into...

    Farmer or Rancher?

:cboy: = cowboy :kid: = farmer But I don't wear a hat.... :???: I have a simular story, except I do live in my parrents house, I never left, I kicked them out. They moved up the road from the old farm house about 17 years ago. They are both gone now. I don't have any sort of...

Tell me about Scottish Highland cattle.

Yep. Seems like a lot of work to me. I have a neighbor who raises them, and by processing the meat himself and selling it to the customer in a neat little package is about the only way he can get rid of the animals. "Regular" Cattle breeds are much easier to dispose of, just dump them...

    hay and bailing string

I know some people don't take the twine off. I do for all the reasons listed above. I've seen cows ingest it. (that can't be a good thing) I've had it wrap around a foot, and cut off circulation, and then you have to catch the animal and get it cut off the leg. I've had it wrap around...

Temporary electric fencing for rotational grazing

In my area, there is a real push toward Zero Point Source Polution, and keeping the livestock out of streams and water ways is highly recomended. If that is there only source of drinking water, then limit their access. I keep my girls fenced out of my streams.

    30 Acres Fenced with barb.

I concure. I have 20 ponds on my property. (one for every pasture and field that can be grazed) The cows have access to all but one pond, that is the closest one to my house. That one I just had rebuilt with the work completed just a year ago. I have stocked that pond and that one is...

    the###### WEATHER!!!!!

MO_cows is in the same weather pattern as we are. It hasn't been dry since last January! :frowns: I am happy to say that my cows were smarter than I had been giving them credit. I went out to feed them up good before the storm really got started. I hadn't gotten around to getting...

Some photos of our triplet calves

It will be pretty darn hard for anyone to "one up" that story at the coffie shop! Congratulations. I would say this ranks right up there with seeing a white unicorn. (I sorta feel sorry for the nursing mom though. )

    the###### WEATHER!!!!!

Well, if misery loves company, then the weather is a good topic to pick. This freak storm that blew in covers a lot of states. Here in my area, we had 4-10 inches of snow if you can measure it. With the temperature below freezing and the wind gusting up to 50 miles an hour, the snow doesn't...

    30 Acres Fenced with barb.

Wow this one is a hot topic this morning.... :o 30 fenced in acres? Sounds like a nice start. I would consider dividing the acrage into sections. Halves/quarters/ etc. You can use either electric fence or barbed. And then rotational graze, no matter how many cows you have...

    SNOW!

Ooooo Wheeeee! Man... got any left-overs? I'm comming over there for lunch! Good call on stocking up on the cow feed BEFORE the storm!!!! I know what you mean by people panicing over a winter storm. I hate to sound politically incorrect, but for me, I've noticed around here...
