    Heavy vs. light grazing steers

I may have the opportunity to purchase lighter (450 lb.) steers this spring from a local farmer. They would be double vaccinated weaned calves that are located 0.25 miles from my house tht he has wintered. I have typically grazed heavier (600+ lb.) steers through the summer (150 days) as I have...

    Implanting Steers

I plan on implanting my stocker steers in a few weeks with Ralgro or Synovex S (leaning towards Synovex). I am wondering if the Clorox wipes are safe to use to disinfect the ear and the needle?

    HELP: Steer breathing weird

I have a stocker steer that is breathing differently recently. When he breaths it sounds really nasally but he does not have any abnormal drainage from the nose, ears are not droopy, but is somewhat lethargic. Is this an early sign of BRD?

    Freshly Castrated Bulls

Just last week I castrated 4 5-6 weight bulls using the scalpel/surgical method. I was wondering how long it will take for the scrotum to recede. It has been 7 days since castration and I noticed that on all 4 the bag is still hanging. Any thoughts?

    Which way do you swing?

Just curious as to why people chose the cow-calf/seedstock, stocker/grazer, or feedlot type of cattle business. Is it way of life? Money? Grew up in it? For me this is the 3rd year I have farmed, with stocker calves on pasture the past 3 summers. I chose this because I am busy with college most...

    Straight truck vs trailer

Has anybody considered a non-cdl straight truck to haul cattle or hay over a trailer? I saw a brand new International 4300 with a livestock body this weekend at a local feeder sale and wondered why you don't see more of them. I don't know what a livestock body would cost but after looking at...

    Barn Lighting

Putting new lights in the basement of our barn using 100 watt lights. Would 9 lights be able to work for a single 20 amp service?

    2006 Suzuki Eiger 400

Found a good looking camo 2006 Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4 for sale at a local dealer. It has 4722 miles on and could use new tires soon. They are asking $2999. Seems like a decent price but the mileage concerns me even though it looks like it's never been ridden. I have never owned an atv but what is...

    Calf pools

I have a couple stocker heifers that I am looking to get rid of soon. What is the best way to discover/join a local calf pool? Or should I continue to feed them and try to sell them in Oct. at a local Cow/Heifer sale?

    Lime Spreader HP

I went into Agway the other day to look into spreading some lime on some pastures this fall and what size tractor is needed to spread it. Its a 3 ton spreader and the owner said 35hp is all you need. I thought 35 hp pulling and spreading 3 tons over hills seemed significantly low. Southern...

    Hauling Charges

A guy I used to mow grass for asked me to haul some gravel for his driveway, however I don't know how many tons he wants. My question is what is the best way to charge him? Materials & Labor? Materials & Hauling? Keep in mind this is a house with a lake view so I would like to pinch every penny...

    Gas Ram 2500 Towing

My dad has a 2002 Ram 2500 automatic with the GAS 5.9 engine, automatic tranny, and he wants to install a turnover ball in the bed of the truck to pull a gooseneck trailer. The truck does have a brand new engine, tow package, camper package, and 4.10 gears. I don't think the truck has enough...
