    530 John Deere Baler

I'm having a bit of a problem with my JD 530 round baler. Basically, when the baler goes thru the tying cycle and cuts the twine, the twine is too close the the edge of the bale. Then , when we move the bale out of the field, the twine wants to fall off the end of the roll. I see no way to...

    Battery Disconnect

Does anyone use a battery disconnect switch on their tractor? I have an older 1466 international which must have some sort of electrical drain on the battery when unused for several days. Thinking of installing one of these switches at a convenient location on the tractor to see if it helps.

    Hydraulic Cylinder

I have leaking hydraulic cylinders on the tension system of my John Deere 530 baler. Having never removed a cylinder before, I have a couple of questions. Is it a difficult project for a novice? Any precautions involved such as pressure relief or getting air in the system? Should tail gate be...

    Tractor Air Conditioning

I bought a 90 something model Agco-Allis tractor. I suspect it may have used the R12 refrigerant. What is involved in switching it over to the R134a?

    Baler speed

Using a John Deere 530 baler. I have been told that baling with a faster ground speed is better than a slower ground speed. Have tried both ways and can't really tell any difference in bale density. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

    Baler Twine

Any suggestions as to which round baler twine you like best? I had a heck of a time this weekend rolling hay. Went thru 3 bundles of twine which did not cut well at all. I was off the tractor at least 80% of the rolls. Then, on the last bundle (same brand of twine), only 1 roll out of 43 failed...

    I need advise & opinions

I am very inexperienced when it comes to health issues with cattle. We are entering our 4th spring with our small herd of 25 cows and a bull. Up until this year, we have never (knock on wood) had any problems with our calves or cows. Although my record keeping early on was limited at best, I...

I am needing to run a hot wire from my charger thru about 100 yds of a cedar thicket to where my electric fence will start. I have a s*** load of awg 15 600 v insulated wire. Would this wire carry the current necessary for my fence? Would it help if I braided 3 or 4 strands together and...

    Anybody ever?

tried to use a GPS (handheld) devise to aid in locating property line markers. I have some property on which I know the location of some property markers, but others are in mountains which I do not know the exact location. I've got a problem....

My pasture is infested "wall to wall" with yellow top weeds. Never had over a few in years past. They will die out in late June or July. Cattly won't eat them. I think they are robbing my clover and fescue from nutrients. I know that I'll have to spray next spring. For the near term, would...

    White Pine?

Had some white pine trees blow over a few years back. Had them sawed into 2x6 and 2x8 planks and have stored them in barn since then. I am currently building an alley way leading from sweep and squeeze chute to area where cattle trailer will be spotted for loading (about 75 feet). How long can...

    Electric Fence question.....

I have about a 1/2 mile run of 2 strand electic fence. At several points, the top and bottom strands are connected together. Does this matter or would the current flow better if the current flowed "out" on the top strand , was connected to the bottom at the end of the run, and flowed "back" on...

    Loading cattle

    Question about rolling hay.....

I roll hay with a 530 john deere roller with a 540 rpm pto. I am pulling the baler with a 120 horse tractor. The tach on the tractor does not work. Generally, I run at about 3/4 throttle. Is there any way of knowing whether or not I am running too high or too low in terms of the pto speed?

    Young bull question.....

I am a newbie when it comes to the day to day operations of a cow/calf cattle farm. The cattle operation I am taking over is/was my dad's. Dad always left his bull in the pasture with the cows on a year round basis. The cows are just now starting to calf. Anyway, I have bought a good young...
