Was wondering what a typical ration for a yearling bull is.I'm not trying to blow him up, just grow at decent rate. Don't want him to crash when I kick him out.

As long as he is used to a lot of fibre in his diet he won't crash when turned out even if you fatten him up some. Turn him out in good condition, used to a high fibre diet and even if he loses some weight during the breeding season he'll come out OK.

I use a pellet consisting mostly of wheat mids for the very reason Knersie described. They get 1-2% per head per day. It's got good protein but also easily digestible fiber and they won't get acidosis on it. I manipulate that 1-2% based on the type of hay (they have free choice hay to keep the fiber up) they're getting and their age.
