Is this genetic defect passed mainly through the female line?

There is no such thing, all genetical issues pass through both males and females.

So what is the value of an unclean daughter.

The same as a clean one to the feedlot.

Isn't that skirting the question a bit.
Now if you buy an embryo the object would be to get a breeding bull or a breeding heifer.

So let me phrase it this way..WHAT IS THE VALUE OF AN UNCLEAN BREEDING HEIFER

They are trying to tell you. It would be good as a feeder, if kept as replacement, its progeny would have to be tested even if it was bred to non carriers. Cost prohibitive in many cases, because half of the progeny is feed lot material even before other cullings.

If you were going to get fifty percent as feeders and you spent the extra money on all cost of the embryo then I would call that a failure. Why not buy an embryo where all calves had a shot at making it.

I still don't know of a single person who buys embryos with the intention to send them to the feedlot
