What not to say at work...

Help Support CattleToday:

Not a good statement for sure, could have been sarcasm or possibly the result of what someone could have said to him earlier, only he himself knows why he said it.
With the current situations of drugs and craziness, I can understand the stress of their jobs. There is so much more out there than just having to deal with the town drunks. Most of the times they are having to work with folks who have been wronged or folks who are being accused of doing wrong. In either case it doesn't usually bring out the best in folks. That being said, there should always be a level of professionalism with any position.

Just saw somewhere that he's going to retire. Good solution.

He'll probably show up on "Cattle Today" talking about shooting folks behind the ear. ;-)

He used poor judgment. I have seen both side of the law. Some cops have been SO COOL and down to earth, fair, and have my highest respect. Some are power junkies, and some are as dirty as they get. I have been a victim first hand to it and am white, by white cops, so I KNOW race doesn't always plays a part in it. I don't envy what a cop has to put up with, I wouldn't want to do it. This guy was probably being sarcastic but a review of complaints ' against him would be good. His retirement was probably a good decision. Go work loss prevention somewhere.

We expect a lot from law enforcement but they are really just people like everyone else and make mistakes. I'd like to believe that this was a case of misunderstood sarcasm.
There was a time in my life when I thought I wanted a career in law enforcement. Part of the academy was ride along with officers. We went to a call where two strippers were beating each other half to death and it took me and two cops and a bouncer to get them subdued. The deputy I was riding with stayed calm and professional to the extent of continuing to call them ma'am and ladies even though they were high as a kite and naked in the back of a patrol car.
The next stop was a domestic violence call between a mother and daughter. After the initial interview the deputy chuckled and said "well at least you both still have your clothes on". Highly unprofessional but in light of what we had just dealt with much more understandable. He was human and let it slip that the last call rattled him. I hope that is the case here.

You might have heard right.

He should of just said "It's ok babe I already shot my limit for the month." Some people say stuff without thinking, or stuff sounds funnier in the brain, but not so much when it is spoken. When I was younger I had a few cops make very unprofessional jokes while they had me pulled ove. I had a female cop give me her personal number she had a thing for bull riders she was a true buckle bunny.

I agree, it should have never been said, but everything about this tells me it was either being said sarcastically or jokingly.
Knowing the humor around these parts,,I'd say it was a combination of both...thinking out loud to a snowbird.. Not a good thing..she was looking to find something and she did...

Sign of the times. Guess he got tired of the chant of pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon. He is human and made a bad utterance.

In case you missed it,,

maybe we should just have robotic cops and drones flying around to get us for ANYTHING we do wrong.. a simple jay walk.. driving 56 in a 55..

that'd be even better.. maybe we should just have the cops trained for drone / robotic system operation and implement that sort of 'demolition man' type environment.

This is just a ploy from the media to engage in a more socialist society completely controlled. They are already talking about giving out 1,000 / month for 'universal income'

When I first saw this thread I thought it was going to be just a generic list of things not to say at work. The fact is I think people are way too sensitive about what is said by others. I worked in the woods in the 70's, 80's and early 90's. During that time at one time or another I was called every name in the book by one boss or another. I also called bosses every name in the book to their face. I witnessed the same thing happen between others too many times to count. Sometimes it resulted in a person quitting or getting fired. On a couple very rare occasions it led to a fight. But most of the time it was met with a four letter reply and everyone went about their business. People didn't take offense. Today everyone takes offense at everything. Heck if you just kept your mouth shut and didn't say anything to make sure you didn't say the wrong thing they would be offended that you weren't talking.

Dave,
I bolded your statements above that seem to be contrary to your conclusions at least to some extent.

Personally, I think people today are cruder. My dad cussed like a sailor, but if any of us kids would have said the f-word, we would have gotten beaten with a strap (literally). Today, some of the stuff you hear coming from kids in the 6th grade, are concepts I didn't hear until the internet came out. Not a joke. I heard a friend's young boy say something to his sister about a year ago that if I had said to my sister, I would not only have been beaten by dad but my uncles would have had a crack at me.

Your dad raised you,,most of these kids,in fact the majority..are raised by single parents..and most of the time by mothers,,who can't handle them. Lucky to get em raised to teens... Easier to let them have their way. And Gets worse with every generation.. Most parents ain't raised any different then they are, just a older version....

I think that less than one percent of the time there was any action taken by either party. Fights were less than 0.001%. Loggers could teach lessons to sailor on how to cuss. I agree that people use language that would not have been acceptable years ago. I am talking about a boss or an employee tell the other what they thought of them as a person. And doing it in no uncertain language.

Waco we could compare buckle bunny stories. Most of the others here don't understand one of the true benefits to riding rough stock. The money wasn't that good but the side benefits could be spectacular.
