I had more to this written in my head that morning while feeding. But do to old age I couldn't remember it when I went to write it all down. So this is all you get.

Christmas Morning on the Ranch

T'was the morning of Christmas and
Warm in the house
Thanks to a fire
Built by my spouse

It is nice and warm
Snuggled in bed
But outside there are critters
Waiting to be fed

Heavy stockings pulled on
My toes with care
With hopes that
Frostbite wont settle there

Out on the porch sit
Clyde and Spot the cat
Wanting their breakfast
So they can remain fat

I fire up the feed truck
Windshield is covered with ice
But once it warms up
The heater will be nice

I fill a bucket with grain
To give to the steer
I want him fat
As his butcher date draws near

I turn the dogs loose
So they can run
Those two mutts
Are having too much fun

Hungry cows want
to help me feed
But their assistance
Is not something I need

The cows get to fighting
And I am in the way
Upright and vertical
Is how I want to stay

Coming to save me
Patty jumps out of the cab
I am glad she is a Border Collie
And not some old Lab

That rain last fall
Made the grass grow
But pulling apart frozen bales
Makes feeding go slow

Back in the house it is warm
And my breakfast draws near
Traditional Swedish pancake
Made by my wife so Dear

I hope all of you have as Merry of a Christmas as I did.

I think this is excellent! And didn't need to be any longer. You need to copywrite it, then video a recitation. Get video of the dogs, the cat, the cattle, the mountains... a lot of winter scenes. Some back ground music, just an acoustic guitar or dobro, maybe, playing in the background as you recite. No kidding..it is that good. Now, tell this old southern boy what Swedish pancakes are? :)

There is a man over on Ranchers who is also a friend on Facebook. He writes a lot of cowboy poetry and is good enough that got invited to preform at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko. I asked him how do you remember things when it comes through your head but too busy to write the idea down. He said that he voice messages himself on his smart phone. A. I don't have a smart phone. B. I am not smart enough to use one. C. Be tough to pull the phone out while feeding 60 hungry range cows. The cows might object and it is not good when hungry range cows start objecting.

Well done Dave. The grandsons are visiting, thanks for the reminder and will have to cajole my better half into making Swedish pancakes in the morning.

Just found this thread...if you can recite and record it, I'll see if I can put some background music to it.
