What is this weed?!

We've been here for 5 years and this is the first time we've had this come up.

After about 2 hours of online searching, I think I narrowed it down to false foxglove. A hemiparasitic weed. No wonder all the grass around them is dying.

Ricebelt, I am also in texas and have never seen that weed. Glad you found out what it is. What part of texas are you located?

Southeast, between Victoria and Houston. It's everywhere. I think we're too late to do anything about it this year. Looks like we'll just have to be ready to jump on it next year as soon as everyone gets their cotton picked. Wherever there is a patch of even a handful of these plants, all of the grass underneath is dead.

These old rice fields are just chock full of surprises!
