I gotta tell ya the hug I got when she came out of that ring was sure priceless. Probably got her a heck of a discount on next years calf.
    I fully understand how you feel.
Congrats - like what was said - A 3-WAY WIN!!!!

Well if i was thinkin about giving her a discount before I am for sure now. Those cheapskates(Bankers and Casinos) only gave her $2250 for a Grand Champion calf. Guess i'll go ahead and sell her and her brother this years calves for market price. What a shame. I doubt she even broke even with that kind of money and I know her brother lost money. I wasn't gonna ask them much more than that anyway.

Heck maybe I'll just take it out in hugs.

That is awful. I'ts probably been 25 years since the Grand Champion Steer brought that little here. Not uncommon for it to bring over $10,000. Shoot, the Grand Champion pen of rabbits will bring that much. Businesses and grandparents really support the youth around here.

Our 4H' rs couldn't even find sponsors this year. My husbands company always sponsored animals and then bought them back for big bucks, but the company had to lay off 70% of their employees to just stay afloat and 4H was one of the first ones to be put on the back burner until the economy straightens out. Times are tough everywhere. I have to say if it means the employees keep their job or sponsor an animal, I am siding with the employees. But I do feel for all the work and effort that these young kids do, and the pride they have while doing it. This is what is going to get us going back to where we should be; these young adults are going to make us all proud. I guarantee it.

I'll have to give the local businesses credit, they do a pretty good job supporting the county fair and livestock show. Even through some of the difficult economic times in the area, the livestock sale would set new records each year.

She's not mine. Wish she was. I am stuck with 3 boys/men.

She belongs to some friends who live up near Cripple Creek Colo.

You ol' softy. Course huggs are "priceless". ;-)

good job,, what's with the jacket :cowboy:

What's with the jacket?. 8500 feet elevation and it rained all night. Seriously we were really cold last week. Highs in the low 60's and 70's, it was cold there that morning.

The calves were all pretty raunchy from being washed with ice cold water that morning. The kids had a real hard time with them until it warmed up some.

I know this should be on the show board but, this is pretty much the commercial 3waycross we have been working towards. I couldn't help showing him and my little Sweetheart off. This is her first try at showing beef. She is 14 and REALLY small for her age, as you can tell from the pictures. I picked out the calf for her with two things in mind #1 and most important disposition, #2 conformation. Looks like we got it right on both counts. She took Grand Champion at the Teller County Fair today.

The calf is 1/2 Angus 1/4 Gelbvieh, and 1/4 Shorthorn. He weighed 1236 lbs. The judge told her she had him finished perfectly, and I agree.

Yep she has done a great job with that steer. Purty lil girl too. I know she is small for her age but 3way you must be a midget :lol2:  In that last pic she is taller than you even with that big stetson you got on to make you look taller :lol2: :cowboy:

Seriously......great looking steer. That girl has done something to be very proud of. She will only get better as she gets older.
