Thanks for your comments and for watching our show.

Here's the April 23rd edition:

Yes we all know docile cattle eat more and do better then crazy cattle. Why not just use a docile breed like Red Polls instead of trying to develop an EPD. You Angus folks have more EPDs for the darnedest things.

Good morning --

Do internet news shows like the one above have informational value for your business? If your own breed association produced a similar program, would you watch it?

Thanks,

Eric

I think they're a good thing and am glad to see the Angus Assn utilizing the 'net, Facebook, etc., to promote the breed....and beef in general. I'd probably watch other breed's videos if they put them up here on Cattle Today.

Do Red Polls have EPDs?

EVERY Beef animal 'has' EPD's. One just does not know it on some of them. . . . and on some of them they are just not recorded. Just like EVERY living organism 'has' Genetic Inheritance Factors. The secret to mating success is knowing how to utilize them to your benefit - and then DOING it!

Genetic Inheritance Factors aren't EPDs. EPDs are created when those factors are put together in a formula that all of us can understand.

Frankie-

An unborn calf may be black and polled, but you won't know that until it is dropped, if the parents are not known (or listed). An ET implanted in another breed recipient, for example. By the same token EPD's are not KNOWN if the traits and characteristics are not LISTED IN THE DATA BASE (part of the definition of EPD's). But the animal STILL possesses them - whether they are listed or not.

Yes we do.....but we sure don't need it for docility and as we all know the epds are based on humans providing the data. If you believe that all breeders are honest in recording their BW, WW, & YW I have a bridge in California I would like to sell.
