Was it a poem, or a book? I never did the reading assignments when I was in school.

It was taught in elementary school back in the day. Not much during my son's generation.

Give us a sample. I used to enjoy reading some poetry but haven't for years.

Pretty sure I've posted this one before
I had retired an old rope horse. He wasn't completely played out, but I had several colts going, and I wanted to finish them. My youngest daughter wanted to start roping, so I got him out one afternoon, and passed him on to her
He looked at the tack with an inquisitive eye
Kinda stood back today, must have been shy
Two long years he'd been kicked out on grass
After today there'd be no more free pass
The pad, the bit, they'd lost their familiar smell
Would he remember the routine, only time would tell
Front gert, then back all screwed down tight
Took that old chain bit like he'd done all his life
Left foot in the stirrup, leg up an over, then hunt for the right
Never a step, he wasn't even tight
Retirement is over, there is a new job to do
A little red headed girl has plans for you
When the buckles she's won are tarnished and green
They'll still shine bright in an old man's dreams.
