The worst natural disaster in U.S. history was in 1900 caused by a hurricane in which over 8000 lives were lost on Galveston Island.

It is my understanding this was from the lack of technology for warning the people of the impending hurricane. The people had suffered through a long drought and when the rain started everyone took to the streets to celebrate, and apparently didn't know when to quit.

Texas is also home to some of the finest people I ever knew. Of course, all Texans are just decendants of Alabamians, Georgians, Tennesseeans, and Mississippians. :D Seriously, I've known some wonderful Texans and found them to be some of the friendliest and most generous folks anywhere.

No offense MSScamp, but I have been up here in Cheyenne for the last couple of months on a temporary job assignment, and I wouldn't trade 100 acres of East Texas for 100 sections of Wyoming. Beautiful scenery in the high country, but just not my kind of country. And it's not even winter time yet!
