> breeds ----------------------- I have been raising Shorthorns for 28 years and this is what I consider their strongpoints: good milk, good mothers, fertile, bulls are aggressive breeders, and they will grade choice when fed. I guess there weaknesses are somewhat related to their strengths. Due to their milking ability, it is hard to maintain flesh on the females. I think the biggest thing that is not good about Shorthorns is their diverse color patterns. If they were solid colored, they would definitely be more acceptable to the commercial people. A lot of the cattle that are considered Shorthorns today came up through the appendix program and have some outside blood in them. This has hurt the consistency in the cattle some but has also produced some great outcross cattle for Shorthorn breeders to use.
