i planted russell bermuda grass 10 years ago and it has never done very well for me.i am in north alabama and was wondering how other folks liked it?

Planted a field a couple years ago. Does great if you keep the worms out. We fertilize it hard with chicken litter then dress it with ammonia after every cutting. It did take it a good two years to really take off and we still have a few bare places that just grows crowfoot grass.

I have some Russell and I wish it was Tift 85. They don't graze it as readily and it bleaches fast when curing. No trouble establishing the Russell though. Russell will outproduce Coastal by about 10% but the cows don't seem to like it as much.

Going to stick with Tift 85 in the future, primarily for grazing because it's harder to cure than Coastal or Russell hay. Will keep baling my Coastal and Russell.
