I recently purchased some bred heifers from the West from a cattle buyer. He told me they were red angus. After arriving on our farm, it is obvious they are crossbred to various breeds. There are some dark red ones, dark red ones with white on face, lighter colored red ones with very faint tinge of an reddish orange, and some that are kind of yellowish orange. Can anyone tell me what kind of breeding I have and whether they will be good, hearty, mellow mothers? I live in Wisconsin and they run the fields in the winter with additional hay, so they need to be hearty. Also, I use all black angus bulls...will they produce good fat cattle....as good as purebred Angus? Thanks for your help.
