Young or old some times they "goof"Had an older cow laid down in a similar wet hole and had twins about three year ago. Neither made it. I was so aggravated with her I could've shot her. Maybe she had dementia or something. Picked the worst spot on the whole farm.
I thought at first you had a giant coyote dig.View attachment 14743View attachment 14744View attachment 14745
Calf was through the fence in a stump hole where the tornadoes in 2011 blew a big oak over . Had to climb over the fence and come in behind him to keep him from going down in the woods . Always an adventure when dealing with cattle !
In the last pic...what kind of grass do you have?Look close at second pic and you can see a black area , that's the calf .
Mostly fescue, our grass was really jumping till the snow and freeze a couple of weeks ago .In the last pic...what kind of grass do you have?

Yes , for sure ! We filled in 4-6 and thought we had them all filled up . That one escaped us . It on my to do list .I think it would be worthwhile to fill in the hole so there's no gap under the fence
True!! 99% of the time if a calf gets out, it's getting back in. But I'll be damned if I don't always find them while they're still out and go full-on rescue mode.I feel like it's the opposite... the more you check the cattle the more problems you find.
