I took the cover off the pto on my ford 2000. And it was filled
with oil, anybody know if this is a easy fix or should I take it in.
I have the eight speed trans. Looks like the shaft has to come out to get the job done.

Cheaper to keep the gearbox filled unless it is blown.

It must have just started . just needed a little oil and could
not tell if it was leaking when I was brush hoging for six hrs.
I'll just keep and eye on it for now.Maybe fix it this winter.

A trick that we have done to pull a pto shaft is to park the tractor on a hill ( make sure it is blocked good ) so that the oil runs front in the housing , this saves draining the oil , just make sure it clean back there so you don't get dirt in when you pull the shaft . most are held with 4 bolts .
