Greasing and PTO Shaft Guards

A mechanic guy that does stuff for me carries big heavy angle iron and will zip tie it to the rod. I guess if the cylinder tries to fall it will catch or give you time to jump out.
They sell those commercially. A good safety device, but, how many of us would do it? We think, it will only take a second, what could go wrong?
 
Several years ago the county I started my career in, the same county I'm still assigned to yoday even though I now cover a much larger area, lost a county ag board member to a PTO accident. He didnt come in for supper and his wife went out and found him by the grain bin. Ive never heard the details but I don't want to know.
