I have been checking the local sale barn reports and seem to be gradually going back up. Anyone noticed the same trend in their area? Now the million dollar question hold or sell?

I believe it is simply the normal season price trend. It is March, spring grass is right around the corner.

If you look back over the past year - - there is an up and then down calf price cycle every couple months.
But... the highs keep getting lower and lows keep getting lower every cycle - - so we are in an overall down trend.

Prices should keep creeping back up and level off. It may still take another month or two to liquidate the over fed cattle backed up on the feed lots. Once the weekly slaughter numbers are stable, prices will stabilize. U.S. cattle numbers have not recovered. Imported beef is the competition.

Everyone is howling about prices mainly because the priced dropped off record highs. But January fat cattle averaged $1.36. That is the 3rd highest January fat cattle on record. So prices may not be what they were but they are still pretty darn good.
