My sister recently purchased some property that has approx. 20 acres of fairly decent fescue grass on it. The previous owner was using it for horses. It is fenced and has a 2-3 acre lake adjacent to it. She is thinking about getting a few head of cattle to put on it. She and her son live on the farm so they are close by. There is also approx. 30 acres more of grass/trees as well as a barn. A neighbor of hers who has cattle recommended that she buy 300-400 weight cattle in the early spring and keep them on the pasture until late fall. Does this sound like a reasonable approach and will there be enough weight gain to make any profit on this scenario. They are currently just bush hogging the area every few weeks to keep up the appearance.
Thanks for you help

depends on how much work they want to put into it and how much risk they want.
Hard to make a reccomendation without first knowing someone's goals.
Don't mean to be a smart @$$, but other wise you are going to hear 1,000,000 different things to do with the property.
stockering calves like the neighbor mentions is an option, but so is running a few head of mama cows.
