you need to start working on it now.will take you a yr or less to get it done.for 3 cows id build a flat barn with 2 stanchions in it.an get a portable milker unit with the compressor stanless steel pail pulsator an milker.i think the rigg will cost you like $1500.

I'd second the portable milker unit as well, unless you are interested in running a full fledged dairy.

depends on how fancy you want to get. Also if you're planning on getting permitted to sell milk to the public. I've got a very plain one that I use for three cows that was made in my existing beef barn. I'm just not selling milk. I'm feeding calves.
