Killing deer. What do you use?

Help Support CattleToday:

unless I'm forgetting one, I've killed deer with a; 30-06, 243, 300 Wby., 357 (lever gun), 338, 270 & 257 Wby.

Dad bought me a 30-30 when I was 12 to start deer hunting and it's still my deer rifle at 33. Haven't seen a need to replace it. Also have a .50 caliber I use during muzzleloader season that I really like.

Killed deer with 30-30, 44 mag, 12ga, 16 ga, and 20 ga. Prefer the 77/44 nowadays.

For years in Ohio and West Virginia I used a 10" Contender in 357 Maximum. The 357 Max got too easy so I started taking out my old/original blackpowder cartridge rifles. So far I've been successful with the Remington Rolling Block in 50-70, 11mm Beaumont and my favorite the Burnside Carbine. Next up will be the Ruger Old Army Blackpowder revolver.

Over the years. 30-30 model 94 open site, 308 savage 99 4x, rugger 77 6mm redfield glass, 257 robts old win 70, rugger77 7mm rem mag. I use what my kids and grandkids are not using at the time.

some good guns there RT

Carry a Ruger 270 now. Used a Ruger 22-250 for years. Every now and then I'll grab the old 30-30. Still enjoy carrying it.

My granddad killed hundreds of deer with a 22 hornet and never let them get away. I use a 222 or a 223 all the time and I knew a guy that had killed lots of bear with a 222.

I have killed deer with 30-30, 270, 308, 30-06, 44 mag, 30-40 Krag, 22 LR, 243, and 7x57. The only deer I have ever lost was one I hit with the 243. It was a very big Mule deer. The majority of the deer I have shot with the 30-06 because that was only hunting rifle for years. This last weekend I packed the 7x57 because I really like that rifle.
I have killed elk with 308, 30-06, and 300 Win Mag.
I think the 30-06 is retired because I started using the 300 for elk 8 or 9 years ago and the 7x57 for deer last year.

Most of the time I'm carrying either a 270 win or 300 win mag to the stand. I carry a H&R .17 rem everyday in my truck, and I've shot several deer with it over the last few years.

12 gauge 3" 00 buck or 12 gauge with slugs or black powder rifle when im on western portion of the state hunting 270 or in counties you can use rifle here

The only deer rifle I have ever used is a Springfield 1903-A3 my dad gave me when I was 13. It has put many a deer in the freezer over the last 10 years and I've only had to sight it in twice. Y'all can have your fancy scopes I'll stick with what works for me, good old fashion military peep sights.

That's good but many of us are just don't see that well anymore to use "peep sights" at a small deer 300 yards away. It's nice to be able to enlarge the target.

What do they use currently in the military? Seems to me the scope is not just an accessory anymore. Why not use modern technology if it's available?
