We've all seen the posts and comments, from a certain individual, that Kentucky cattle suck and the whole "woe is the cattle industry in Kentucky, I will make it better". So I decide to pull some sale reports from some "crap" operations from the Suck Cattle capital of the United States...the great state of Kentucky. These are all 2018 bull sale reports and I didn't grab all of the breeders I could have. I was actually quite surprised by the amount of production sales put on by individual farms, more than I thought there would be.

Brand View - $4,000 average, top of $5,000
Boyd - $5,600 average, top of $57,500 (Geez not 1.5 mil, they must really suck)
Woodall - $3,300, top of $4,600
Oak Hollow - $3,700, top of $5,500
Pleasant Hill - $4750, top of $20,000 (slackers, probably fed moldy hay)
Rock Ridge - $2,500, top of $9,500
************* - no sale, kind of shocking, because with all that top of line SAV genetics and with all the other Angus breeders feeding moldy hay and not knowing how to breed, they should of had the top sale in 2018.

Understand this is all tongue in cheek.

We bought bulls at Rock Ridge in 2012 and 2013. No complaints. Loved our Bismarck bull from 2012.

Bought 3 this past fall at Deer Valley Farm nearer to my home here in Tennessee mainly because I can be to their place in less than 90 minutes and they ship free to your farm. A very large producer in the next county was at the Deer Valley sale and he bought 6 bulls. I know this only because the truck that brought our 3 had just dropped off his 6.

I'm growing weary of this Kentucky cattle bashing myself but I realize this thread is in jest.

Bashing cattle in general is bad for US in the beef business. We have enough folks on the outside trying their best to make US look bad.

I hope you all know I wrote the first post, tongue in cheek. It appears the Angus and Cattle biz in Kentucky is alive and well. I don't think a single bull will be sold in WA or OR for over $50,000 much less $20,000.

With all these terrible cattle In Kentucky I decided to look at the USDA Market report to see how cheap they are. After all sorry cattle aren't worth as much as good cattle. I was surprised to find that the USDA reports on 30 different sales. Washington and Oregon only have 11 sales combined. The prices are pretty much what we have in the PNW. It would be nice if they were higher but we can't all be Nebraska.

Kentucky Weekly Livestock Summary for the week of February 25-March 2, 2019

Receipts: 21,418 Last Week 14,238 Last Year 19,260

Compared to last week feeder steers and heifers were mostly 2.00-4.00 higher, with
some instances of 5.00-7.00 higher on lightweight calves. Good to very good demand
was noted for feeder classes, and very good demand was noted on weaned and
vaccinated groups. Throughout the majority of the week as weather became much more
tolerable to livestock and producers both, movement accelerated and trade remained
active.
Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly 2.00-4.00 higher with good demand and active
trade.

In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 37 percent and heifers,
approximately 44 percent. Feeder cattle over 600 lbs totaled approximately

So I guess Boyd is the only good breeder in Ken-tuck since their average was higher than $5000.

No, they're the best because they have the highest selling bull in the state. Silly guy.

Hey Creek,

Have you ever heard of selling private treaty right off the farm?

You really are getting bent out of shape and getting upset when what I say can be backed up.

I'm pretty sure Angus producers in Kentucky would feel better if they could get the same prices as those out west or up north. Right or wrong?

If I had come on here and said "Kentucky cattle are the finest cattle in the entire United States" you guys would have laughed so hard you would have pizzed your pants. You know darn well they leave much to be desired. I'm just saying what other registered producers actually think but wouldn't dare say.

Let's just be delusional and leave it at that.

From here on out, let's say this:

Kentucky cattle lead the pack in genetics.
Kentucky cattle are highly desired by buyers around the country
Kentucky cattle make up the overwhelming majority of AI studs
Kentucky cattle are known for being exceptionally healthy and they ALWAYS have legit health records, never falsified by a vet, never!
Kentucky leads the country in beef that scores prime
Producers are making huge profits from their cattle operations in Kentucky
100+ head herds are common in Kentucky

Does that sound better for everyone?

We will stick to the statements above moving forward, ok?

Raising cattle in the great communist state of Washington, I don't think I would ever openly criticize the beef industry in my own state or county. Hopefully I end up doing a lot of business with these people. I sure heck am not going to put seed stock producers on blast when I myself haven't come close to attaining their success.

Some things have to be addressed to move ahead. Nobody improves when they aren't truthful with themselves. I don't sugarcoat.

I've said positive things about the other Angus producers here, I'm not sure what you are speaking of.

How do you define success? Is it only measured by money?

I hope you all know I wrote the first post, tongue in cheek. It appears the Angus and Cattle biz in Kentucky is alive and well. I don't think a single bull will be sold in WA or OR for over $50,000 much less $20,000.
Kessler Angus in Milton-Freewater (Oregon) sold a son of Cowboy Up for $22,500 a few weeks ago. Hayter Ranch in Washington sold an Angus bull for, I think $21,000, last month. They may be few and far between, but there are some high-end sales here in the Pacific Northwest ... just none for $1.51 million! :D

Had no idea Kessler had their sale and never heard of Hayter, looks like I need to pay attention. Thank you for the info.

Not sugar coating works well in some discussions.. You just aint mastered it yet...and from the looks of it, don't see it happening..

and.....by saying one thing nice about a neighbor, does not give a person free rein to bad mouth the same neighbor in a public setting. In regards to the comment whereby "I don't sugarcoat", if you work on removing your own sugarcoat from your own self assessment. Then your opinion of yourself won't have any cavities.

Hence the reason I don't ever want show cattle.

I personally know a person who had a prized 7 figure Saddlebred horse murdered by some psycho several years back. A horrible death at that. Probably by a competitor.

Never underestimate people.
