John Wilkes Booth

Help Support CattleToday:

Interestingly, (to me only by all means), just last week I watched a clip from the old game show "I've Got a Secret" where the contestant's secret was that he was in the audience at the Ford Theater when the assassination occurred. The witness only saw Booth jump down from the balcony and break his leg. The witness, 5 years old at the time, knowing not of the shooting of the President was only concerned and frightened that Booth had fallen from the balcony and hurt his leg.

That is interesting.

This is political
Truly believe Booth was the patsy for northern interest,
they did not care for Lincolns plan of reconstruction he had to go
just like JFK. Both were interfering with the power and money of the day.

Wild, they must have been pretty old by the time they were on the show. I got to thinking about this some more last night and I was wondering if Booth is revered as a hero to the south? Living my whole life above the Mason-Dixon line, I have no idea how you southerners feel, but we always looked at him like a villain b/c he had killed our 'heroic' president. As I'm sure you're all aware, those of us from the northern part of the country are raised to think of Lincoln as 'the best President.'

That was a good read. Didn't they hang some people associated with the Lincoln's death, that were actually innocent?

Dr. Mudd set his broken leg. He was villified ever after and became part of the language. (His name was mud.)

Lincoln sucks had the stupid democrats not fractured into running a northern, southern and a guy out of Ky against him he would have never snuck in and started that war of northern aggression.

I read in the past couple days that the historians are not sure that this is entirely accurate and that Mudd might have been roped in by Booth. I'll see if I can find where I read that.

I'm not a Lincoln fan either. I've read a couple accounts where he didn't give a rat's you-know-what about the slaves. He is quoted in a couple speeches in Illinois, one being in the pro-abolitionist North promoting abolition and then in the southern part of the state promoting slavery. It's also referenced in quite a few historical texts that he freed the slaves as a way to cripple the southern states into submission. He's just another politician but b/c he 'reunited' America and technically freed the slaves, he'll always be remembered as a hero.

He technically never was the souths president .. there was much more to the war of northern aggression than slaves.. have ya'll seen that movie with Mark Walberg where he was a sniper they set up to kill that political figure from Africa.. I think stuff like that happens quite often. Look at the members of seal team 6 that got Bin laden.. all dead . Supposedly a plane or chopper crash ..

I certainly can't speak for everyone south of the line, but while I probably don't revere Lincoln as much as you do, I also don't think Booth was any kind of a hero.

Lots of sentiment about that war still. My wife is an elementary school teacher, she is from OK, but taught in Ohio before coming here. She was surprised that when she mentioned Lincoln during class that some of the students were very vocal about not liking him. She had never heard anything negative about him until being around some of the folks here in KY.

I can't say that I revere the man. Of all the presidents we have had, he's one of them.

That's the beauty of our republic. We are not limited to two parties especially when one of them is a bunch of worthless southern democrats. States had already seceded before Lincoln was inaugurated and were already promoting and preparing for war.

I'm a Republican today but I expect I would have been a Democrat in those days.
Most of the northern dems switched after the war while the south strongly entrenched in conservative democrats.
It still all came down to power and controlling the congress and WH.
All stared with the Missouri Compromise and continues today.
You can BS yourself all you want the war as any other was fought over power and money. The altruistic motives portrayed in history books is bunk. Lincoln didn't care about the slaves had one plan to ship them all back to Africa. Lincoln shredded the constitution he would be a socialist today.

I've read a lot about John Wilkes Booth, don't enjoy it as much as I do reading about James Earl Ray.
