Hello from Deep East Texas

Help Support CattleToday:

I've been following this thread with great interest. It's nice to see ranchers in the same general area as I'm outta the Lufkin area. We've had another 4.25" rain here to already soaked ground. But I concur with y'all…..this beats a drought any day.
2.5" in Stonewall LA yesterday and night before, the ground is like walking on a sponge. We need a break so hay can be cut

Yup...saturated ground, tall trees, and high winds make for a nasty combination. Trees #7 and #8 are down on my place...looks like it will be a busy June. And more storms coming this week...we could use a bit of a break. Can't get down in the pastures to do much without making a bunch of ruts.

Just heard on the weather predicted 4 to 5 inches Thursday.
That will get 45" plus in a month.

The Unicorn
Song by The Irish Rovers

A long time ago, when the earth was still green
And there were more kinds of animals than you've ever seen
They'd run around free while the earth was being born
But the loveliest of all was the unicorn
There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn
Now god seen some sinnin' and it gave him pain
And he says, "stand back, I'm going to make it rain"
He says, "hey, brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do
Build me a floating zoo"
And take some of them green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorn"
Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark just as the rain started fallin'
He marched in the animals two by two
And he called out as they went through
"Hey, Lord"
I've got your green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord, I'm so forlorn
I just can't see no unicorn"
Then Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns was hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was pouring
Oh, them silly unicorns
There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, "close the doors 'cause the rain is pourin'
And we just can't wait for no unicorns"
The ark started movin', it drifted with the tide
Them unicorns looked up from the rock and they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away
And that's why you'll never see a unicorn, to this very day
You'll see green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorn

Not sure how much land I'm going to have left. It's all eroding down the creeks!
And more falling today...lots of it...I think the rain chances continue through this Saturday. It's pouring down here right now. I'll drive over the Neches River on the way home and see what it looks like. But it was already 1/2 mile or so out of its banks before this rain started. Hang in there @Caustic Burno

I'll just bet my culverts that give me access to the back pasture are going to be in a lot worse shape now...sigh

We are getting hammered 3" an hour falling.
No end in sight for hours

Yeah, it's very et here…most of what's falling now is just running off…and headed straight for y'all down the rivers…might want to think about building an ark…Jasper County is probably worse…they'll have mosquitoes carrying people and livestock off this summer. No break in the forecast through tomorrow night…sigh…anybody know where I can get some gopher wood?
