Heifers

Help Support CattleToday:

Thought to update with some photos of the calves. Two calves from AI lim bull, both 7months old. Haven't expected much of growth from them during winter, but they have put on size in spring. Still pretty nice calves for first timers.

Actually, have one more heifer incalf to the same bull. You can see her in the last pic grazing in the background. Who cares about 110lbs bw from both previous calves anyway.

Cattle look good. Looks like your pastures are struggling.

Thanks. Yeah, we had an early and dry spring, add ~100F for more than a month every single day without a single drop of rain... We still have more grass than some parts of the country. Had years with more grass, but we should manage to make enough of feed. Started grazing the second grass in some pastures.
Overall it's been a hard summer so far, lots of cattle escapes- our own and neighbor's, machinery not working well, prices low and with all heat cattle don't grow much... Will cull some heifers and cows just to be able to keep others. Hopefully the other half of the year will be better.
