Heart Attack and Water - I never knew this !Interesting.......
Heart Attack & Water
Something I didn't know either! I asked my Doctor why do I and other people urinate so much at night time. Answer from my Cardiac Doctor = Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement!
I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me.
Correct time to drink water... Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:
2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

Please pass this to the people you care about......
I can also add to this... My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.

People used to think that salt which I presume is what magnesium is used to take away cramps.

It was a myth. The salt made the person thirsty so they drank water and it was the water that took away the cramps.

Magnesium works, trust me on that one. Regarding the science in the original post, there is no names of scientists nor any explanation why water helps preventing hart atacks. If one does not drink anything, many medical issues will come, drinking too little causes a few problems too.

you are right Anaz...magnesium is good for cramp along with potasium, but not everyone has magnesium pills to hand but they do have water, warm water is best as you should not drink to cold water it is not hydrating enough.
before posting this e-mail I recieved I checked it out to make sure it was so. I have always drunk a glass of water before meals, and that was on Bariatric Doctors orders, so there must be some truth in it all. Green tea is best for indegetion and to drink 1/2 hour after meals as it adds the digestion.

Who did confirm that this was indeed true? Enlighten me; for I am clueless as to the hydrating effects from different temperatures in water.

I saw it on TV Anzazi they said room temperature water is better for you.

They had a pond of magnesium water and were claiming all the health benefits from it.

The TV show took the water to a Doctor and asked if it could be true.

he said if most people started drinking more water they would all see health benefits.

In the second week in August last year I cut out fruit juice for breakfast, cordial for tea and soft drink when we go out. We have rain water so I am drinking that instead.

I have lost weight since the day I started. There is a before and after pic in the Australian Thread.

If you are out on a tractor, or otherwise working in the sun all day, the neck cooler things are very helpful in keeping your body cool (evaporative cooling), and thus not using up all your body fluids to keep cool. We use them here. Gave some to a friend who farmed near Weiser, ID a number of years ago. He used to drink lots of water and never get off the tractor all day -- couldn't keep enough fluids in him. After the neck coolers, he drank as much water, stayed cooler, got off the tractor once in awhile during the day, and complained he wasn't getting as much work done. We've handed them out to our neighbor hay farmers, and they love them.

Friend of mine and her quilting group have also made them for our service people in desert countries. Here's a link for the pattern:

I switched from coke to tea (because I still need some caffeine due to keeping odd hours) in December. I lost 30 lbs by Mid March and I am still there. Water without caffeine would be better, but just getting rid of the sodium and sugar helped a ton.

Chrissy, your right that drinking water before meals is good in a couple of ways. One, it makes you feel fuller and so you don't eat as much. It does assist in digestion because it is easier to move contents from your stomach that are more fluid and less thick/pasty.

I think the deal about warm water vs cold water is that cold water will absorb heat (energy) from the surrounding tissue and fluid. It takes energy to maintain body temperature. So some writers will run with that and say warm water is better than cold water for you.

I haven't seen anything on laying down vs standing up. But one thing I do know is that going back and forth between hot and cold environments will fill your bladder as quick as anything. Your body alters blood flow from the extremities to the core, therefor more blood through your kidneys temporarily. That's why you may have to go back in to go, just after you get all bundled up and go out.

My Bariatric Surgeon, I rang him about something else and asked him while on the phone. Also look up on the web there are a lot of medical sites that will tell you, I don't mean the ordinary web, look into the .org sites by your local health authorities.

cold water is just as good for you as warm. there are a lot of rumors floating around about this subject.

My point exactly, I just wanted to give some time for everyone to sort their thoughts.

I have to have a certain amount of disagreement with the quantity of water required for good health... I think that drinking if you're really not thirsty isn't going to do you any good... remember that your kidney aren't a "filter" that needs "flushing". Different people need different amounts of water, so I don't think there should be any set-in-stone amount you should drink, but here's a typical water intake for me

Winter - 2 big cups of tea in the morning, a glass of water in the evening
Summer, Same 2 cups of tea, then a glass of water every 3 hours if it's really hot

I do always drink if I'm thirsty, but I never drink for the sake of drinking (except beer)

I know some people who think they're going to die if they don't drink a gallon of water a day.

here's a newsflash for many, but most in hotter climates will already know... As soon as sweat beads or runs off you, you're not cooling yourself optimally... Also, cold drinks don't cool as well as hot drinks.. strange, but there's a reason why the Arabs drink hot black tea.
I have firsthand experience with how much I need to drink, and the listed 2 cups of tea on a summer morning is TOO MUCH, in actuality for me... Right after breakfast I start my irrigation line change, and if' it's in the high 80's or 90's, the first hour is hell, I'm sweating like a pig and feel hot until I've burnt off the 2 cups of tea, then I stop sweating profusely, and start to cool properly, and feel better... I might be a bit thirsty, so as I put the cap on my last irrigation line, I use it as a cup and have a drink.

There's my 2 cents

I saw another thing on TV that took into count the water that you eat in vegetables, etc which brings down what you need to drink.

You can drink too much water. You can actually die from it if you drink too much. You would have to google that for the facts. Dilutes your organs too much.

I also saw a lady on TV who was addicted to water. She started on a diet and instead of eating she would drink water. It bloated her. She was huge and she said that if she was anywhere if you ask anyone for water they will give it to you, so she was so addicted she couldn't quit.

drinking tea straight after eating is not good as tea dilutes the vitamins in the food you have just eaten.

The tea drinking after eating... well, with some people's diets they probably don't have to worry much about that, the tea has more vitamins than their meal did lol
