Grass clippings

Help Support CattleToday:

I do it all the time when I have a lot of grass clippings. My cows will not do anything as long as I'm mowing, but when they hear my yard sweeper being pulled behind my mower they come running. With knee deep grass they still come running.
I've always wondered why cows prefer dry hay over green, growing grass...

Because its sweeter I assumed.

But if I was a cow I would go for haylage over hay or silage, I don't know about other parts of the world but some of our haylage bales once unwrapped smell divine like slightly cooked sweet butterscotch candy or something and the colouring reflects that too (sometimes I catch myself standing there smelling it as its soo good) and thats something you don't get from hay and definitely not silage. I assume others know what I mean.
