Calves on spring grass

Help Support CattleToday:

They would definitely need feed, and I doubt they'd make very good use of the grass. A short term nurse cow eating grass and feeding calves would probably be more efficient and fit your operation.

I've never tried putting a calf that big on a nurse cow. And I'm outta nurse cows! 😆

I didn't figure it'd work honestly. I know these calves are grazing now but their mamas ain't got any milk hardly. And they are cheap.

We are putting 3-4 weights on grass with feed.
We do have a few lighter calves.
We're going to see how they do.
My cowboy assures me we will make money.
If we can get some weight on them with limited feed and don't lose any/ many , and after the prices I saw yesterday, they will do ok.
