I show Longhorns. Lately I am having trouble keeping weight on my show heifers. I am feeding a 12% sweet feed, but im not adding anything to it, I have heard some people add beet pulp, do you have any ideas on what would help?
Thanks,

Will

The key to weight is calories. Calories usually come from corn in most mixes, but you have to watch getting too much fat on a heifer. How much feed are they getting, how much do they weigh, and do you have the nutrition info from the feed tag?

They weigh about 750-800 pounds and eat about 17-18 pounds a day, I dont have a tag with me but I can get one tomorrow.

If you can't keep weight on by feeding that much you've got problems. 18 pounds is a lot of feed.
