Not too embarrassed to say I'm a total newbie who is learning from scratch on maintaining my new land. Going up to begin working on my overgrown fence lines for the first time (5-10 years of mostly neglect). I'm bringing a chainsaw (w/ safety gear), weed-eater-style brush cutter, pruning shears, and a backpack sprayer. Gonna spray some and clear some. What other tools do I need to throw in the back of my truck? I'm about an hour from home to property. No cattle on the place yet, so fence repair will come later. Any tips appreciated.
Where are you located?
I cleared a fenceline off completely a few years ago with chainsaw and brushcutter and a 4 gal backpack sprayer. It was work, but not terribly hard--about 750' was all it was tho. Anything under 1" to 1 1/2" (if it's a softwood) the brushcutter will take care of and after you cut some of the big stuff, spray the stumps with remedy/diesel. I hope you have the sawblade and not that 3 sided thing. I use one of these:

but would like to try one of these if I could find one:

Never know when you might need a come along and a chain. I keep one of each in my truck. Wire cutters too.

GB, let me know how it works if you try one of those razormax blades. I'd bet it's not as good as the Stihl blade.

I cant believe someone has not already said this. Get a bulldozer and a quart of shine. Sit and sip the shine and watch the dozer clean the fence row. He will do more in an hour than you can do in a week.

That's the only two things you need. All that other stuff causes to much work.

Ya know......that's probably the best suggestion yet! 8)

A couple of chains. A light one to tie around and a good one to tie it to the truck.

All the above, but king gave you a good one. Working with light equipment like you are. You got in and cut every thing you can at ground level. Cut the old fence every 100 feet or so. Tie chains around the bigger stuff and pull it out in chunks with the truck or tractor.
If you're leaving the old fence you will go down and kinda fillet the brush of the fence and then pull.

You can sure tell who's been there. Lol. Trees a foot or two inside the fence never see a chainsaw. Cut them and they'll sprout. Pull them out by the roots and you're done.

An extra chain hook. If you buy chain, get a light one but grade 80 or better.

I've got a caterpillar. But if your neighbor's pasture is full of cows, digging a hole and burying the fence doesn't work.

Cut them and spray tordon or arsenal mixed half and half with water on the cambium ring of the stump and you won't get a sprout. Pull up by the roots and you'll have a hole in the ground as well as additional woody vegetative matter to dispose of.
