I recently had some friends start buying small calves at the local barns and feeding, vacinating them until about 400#. Then sending them to feedlots. Supposedly the feedlots will finish the weight while sending monthly progress reports back. Then the feedlots will sell them and send a check back to my friends minus of course feed, medicine and board. Do any of ya'll do this and if so how's it work out? any pointers?

My though is that a small calf will cost to much to feed until they get to harvest weight of 1250 lbs. I think it would be more profitable if the calves were put on pasture until they reach about 750 lbs. or heavier and then put into the feed lot. I think the health of the calves would be better also.
