Drought plan

Help Support CattleToday:

I talked to several dairy farmers here and up until this rain came in Monday, several were already running irrigation systems on the corn. It was that dry; we seldom ever had seen irrigation before the end of June and corn was usually 2-3 ft tall and then it would turn dry. Corn is about 2- 2 1/2 ft now in these irrigated fields... at Best.... most of what I am seeing is 1-2 ft at most around the area... It has been too chilly and too dry for it to do much growing. Since Monday, we have had good rains in the area, 1-2 inches at least... and although still very cool, not over 60 today which is really cool, the rain has been mostly really slow and steady, showers with lighter periods inbetween so it is all soaking in around here.

We have had about 75% of the normal hay so far, this ought to help with the 2nd cutting coming on... but we still need some warmer temps. Don't want the 100's like Texas is seeing.....
80's would be real welcome.
