dead calves

Several calves have dropped dead, no signs of sickness just keeled over. On open pasture, good weather, still nursing, 3-4 mos old, vet says looks like a fast acting pneumonia, what would cause this? No stressors or other illness, can people catch it?

I have never witnessed a fast acting pneumonia could be though.Do you give blackleg shots to your calves?
