If they are healthy and angus or hereford crossed with diary that is an excellent price by our local standards. A calf can be weaned from the bottle at 4 weeks if she is eating a minimum of 2 lbs a day of good quality calf starter grain. We used to keep feeding them milk for 8 weeks only because we had a surplus of milk. Wether they will make good cows depends on primarily the fedd situation. If you have very good quality and an abundance of pasture or they will be dry lotted they can make realy great cows. Their condition will always look a little thinner then a beef cow but shouldn't be as thin as a typical dairy cow. They are geneticly predisposed to high milk production, we used to graft at least one and frequently two calfs besides her own when her calf was about 3 days to a week old.
