Being in the Deep south I would like to stay away from Black, I was wondering what would be a good red to cross on a small (12) decent herd of Beefmasters, mine are all colors most are FS 5, I have one pushing 6.

My goal is heifers sold as commercial cross 1/4 ear and males retained for custom beef.

Looking at the reds I like:

my guess is, you'll want to keep those heifers....

I agree with Alacowman that you will likely want to keep the heifers yourself.

Not very familiar with any of these bulls, but am concerned by the low Stayability scores of some of these bulls (Polled Pilgrim, Summit's Pride).

Eldon Starr at Bull Barn is a very knowledgable cowman, so I would ask his thoughts on these bulls as well.

3waycross breeds some reds and is familiar with some of the better bloodlines. Maybe he will weigh in on your choices. I only breed black so I am sorry that I can't be of more help.

Heavy Equipment was really popular around here a few years ago. I wanted to use him in 2007 but couldn't get semen , he failed export for some reason.

Love my red Gelbvieh. Recently collected my red herdsire.

Love red Gelbvieh.

I like CKS second bull here a lot. Especially for your needs. He has crazy high marbling for a purebred red Gelbvieh. I know they are waiting for the results of his CA test and if he is clear he would be my first choice.

I also agree Tabasco is a hellova bull. I have a dtr of his that makes some mighty fine bulls!
