In response to being locked out of type1 thread I guess I'll give my experience with type 2.
Taking 3 different meds and being prescribed insulin I changed my diet. Eliminating all sugar, almost all carbs. No fruit, honey no potatoes, no rice, no pasta.
Fatty meat and eggs only. After less than a year I was off all meds . Most type 2 diabetes can achieve it but it takes going all the way. A type 2 diabetic produces insulin. Most type2 diabetics are just eating to much sugar. This is my real experience. Most people would rather eat sugar and take the pills. Suger is no different than cigarettes as far as poisoning your body.

Are most type 2 overweight yes.
Why is their body doesn't convert sugar to energy but fat because of insulin resistance.
So they eat more because their body is craving it and is a vicious cycle.
You have to be very disciplined on diet and exercise along with meds to control it.
It is more expensive to maintain a diabetic diet that is why there is a higher incidence in lower income.
Most of the diabetic meds that are covered by Medicare and Medicaid cause weight gain.
Look these up for yourself glyburide or glipizide are first line generic defense drugs.
Metformin helps with weight but has the least tolerance with patients.
Even if you control it with diet and exercise your still a diabetic.
I am 5’10” and weigh 173 and still require over a thousand dollars a month to maintain blood glucose. I don’t eat enough to keep a bird alive. My nemesis is corn! Any corn products send my blood sugar to the moon! Dang near everything in the grocery store has corn by products in the ingredients from bread to canned goods.
This gets worse with age.

Meat and eggs do not contain corn. A true diabetic does not produce insulin.
Type 2 does but is insulin resistant.to various degree's. Some do require meds but you very seldom will find one that has the discipline to eat right that can't control it.
If corn makes your sugar spike don't eat anything with corn. I eat nothing with corn. It's not really complicated. It just requires some discipline.

Some statins will drive blood sugar up and apparently become permanent after a while. Reading about Lipitor it says it may make you a diabetic, but the good outweighs the bad. My 86 yo mother never had a problem until she was put on Lipitor with glucose levels and she takes glipizide now.

Her age has a lot to do with it.
I have a very strict diet along with meds. There are more drugs than you realize that raise blood sugar.
Most antibiotics do, it has to do with disturbing the digestive system.
Have you taken her to an endocrinologist not just her GP.
If you have diabetes you don’t need to listen to me or any guy on the street.
Get an endocrinologist!

I also was diabetic after being prediabetic for years. Dr gave a bunch of pills and I am not into taking pills, so I look for an alternative solution.
I found a book called Diabetes Destroyer by David Andrews. I followed the directions in the book and in one year I was under 100 daily and my a1c came down to the high 5's.
When I went back to the doctor my new blood work said it all. He was so proud that his pills had cured me ...and then I told him I didn't take any and he got mad.
I proceeded to tell him how I cured myself and he was not interested in hearing how I did it.
Obviously it is all about the food you eat and exercise.
It's been 3 years now and I can pretty much eat anything I want ....within reason.
So I might even have ice cream twice a year or something else that's not good for me as long as it's a little at a time.

I assume that is your former doctor now, given his behavior.

The holistic dr that I went to told me never take statins, they do more harm than good.
There's actually numerous studies now that say having high cholesterol isn't bad. One Dr I watched said that people with high cholesterol are more likely to be able to fight cancer or survive a heart attack. He explained that the reason cholesterol got a bad wrap was that cholesterol's job is to attack inflammation, so when your arteries are clogged with cholesterol it wasn't because your cholesterol was high it was because you had inflammation in your arteries that the cholesterol attacked. He suggested that the inflammation in arteries tat the cholesterol was attacking was probably coming from sugar. It is a proven fact now that sugar causes and feeds inflammation. Another Dr I heard said he believes when that eventually they will just tell you that having high cholesterol is not the devil they've made it out to be, but that will only happen once the patent expires on the statins and the pharmaceutical companies aren't making billions on it.
I know 2 people whose widow maker was 98% clogged and both had normal cholesterol levels, both eat alot of breads and sugar too, one of them ended up having a heart attack.

I'd have fired him. It's hard to beat a man at his own game, but your results spoke for themselves. His arrogance was an indicator of his unwillingness to learn.
Most in the medical field only know what they tell them at medical school and are unwilling to accept that holistic methods work. There are those on the outer fringe that do their own research and see results from holistic methods but they are not the majority.

Good information. My neighbors overall cholesterol was 135 and he needed two stents. It seems they keep lowering the numbers IMO so they can put most on statin meds. My bad cholesterol is borderline the limit with total around 170-180 and they want to put me on Pravastatin. So far I left one doctor because of this and still not very interested in the statin. The eating thing is the most important as I can do good for several days and then blow it in one day.

Eating right is hard, especially when no one else is eating right and have all those tempting things around. I do good most of the time and when I do eat sweets or simple carbs I try to limit myself. I used to just eat them til I was stuffed, now if I'm going to eat sweets or a simple carb I try to load up on protein, fat and fiber first so that I don't overdo the bad stuff. Eating simple carbs and sugar makes me not feel good and tired and I don't like that feeling besides the health problems that come from them so I really work at trying to avoid them. Working at a school someone always has donuts or cake or pie, they're always offering me some and when I turn them down they act like something is wrong with me.

That’s funny my wife’s family could eat boiled water and have high cholesterol.
Everyone of them has had a heart attack and are ate up with cancer.
My wife is the first woman in her family to make it past 42 in four generations without breast cancer.
There were no statin’s then.
