So, I really hadn't planned to disappear for the last several weeks. Unfortunately I had a bit of a mishap and ended up with a broken collarbone. That was about 10 weeks ago, and I had surgery on it also about 8 weeks ago. I'm feeling pretty good now, and while I don't have full range of mobility back yet, it is coming.
Unfortunately it made it really difficult to mess around on the computer and to type, as well as to do any sort of photography, among other things. But finally today I was able to get out to the cattle, open AND close the gates on my own, so I took a whole lot of photos.
I am pretty happy with how the calves are all looking... And if you look closely you will notice how GREEN it is in the photos. That is pretty amazing for this country, this time of the year. Usually it is brown, brown, brown. But I guess 6+ inches of rain in the last 3 weeks makes things green....
So here are the photos, there's lots of them! Enjoy!
One of my very favourite cows and her heifer calf
A first calf pair
This one is for MilkMaid! She will remember this guy, he has done amazingly well! Poor guy was born on a really cold night, in between about a 2 hour check, out of a heifer.... We thought we'd have to put the poor guy down, but he has surprised us all.
A little extra chrome on this sweetie
A 13 year old girl
And her calf
Hereford x Shorthorn
And the calf again
Black Shorthorn... mama is 50/50 Shorthorn/Angus and baby is 75/25 Shorthorn/Angus
Hereford x Shorthorn (and maybe a little something else in there??)
Red calves
A couple pretty awesome steers
