I was checking some cows last night and I noticed how my bull was keeping them in a group and would not let one stray off. I thought it was interesting behavior and was wondering why some bulls do that.

I've had mine do that from time to time. I've always assumed it was a territorial thing, but that may be wrong. Some bulls seem to do it more than others. Typically when I've seen mine do it, another bull has been in the area across the fence fussing and he might be protecting has harem and making sure the cows are away from him. It can be a pain until the first cow gets by him and the floodgate opens for the rest to get out.

Not uncommon with high libido bulls.
