Folks use to try to feed a cow for less than $3.00 per day or as close to that as possible. At today's prices grain alone would be $3.50 and you can add, hay, alfalfa, brewers grain or whatever else goes into the total ration to that figure to come up with a daily feed cost. Then you have to throw everything else in . Someone with absolutley no debt can probably still break even on $16-$17 mailbox price on milk but if you have a cow payment and a real estate loan or lease rental on the barn and acreage I don't know if that $25 will even make you any money. Even with prices higher the last six or eight months many have had to dip into any savings they may have had, taken outside jobs or borrowed money. All of these are still like slowly bleeding to death.
