Bought all my hay this year

I think its all in how you look at it. I just bought 30 rolls off my neighbor...4x5's for $15/roll out of the field. All his hay equipment is paid for. He doesn't do it for a living. So basically all it costs him out of pocket is the fuel and twine. Why count your time ...the irs wont let you. Some people just like making hay....I don't.

Exactly. They don't consider wear on equipment, maintenance, repairs, capital cost, etc. Your post captures the essence of the hay business. It is not operated as a business, it is operated as a hobby.

Some people can do stuff cheaper than others. It cost a lot of money to run a newer baler, tractor, tedder and rake. And some folks can't fix a flat tire, much less replace a bearing, belt or weld something.

Exactly , ran into this a week or 2 ago , when I ruined a tire on a rented sprayer , wanted 20 bucks for mounting , I did it in 5 minutes. I swear , and swore, but I will never give 20 dollars to mount a 15 inch tire.
