Opening day of Muzzleloader season last year, i opened a box stand and a mother owl flew out at my light as I was standing on the ladder. Crap everywhere...her, the chicks, me... the stand smelled like a zoo the whole season. We abandoned it until the following year. Its new name is the Hooter stand.

When those things finally leave you either will have to burn the stand or just reserve it for the critters to raise thir young.

I think you are right, but it is fun watching them grow up.

The younger chicks look a lot like baby buzzards. Found a nest of those once and boy was it rank. Were you startled when you found the nest? I can imagine opening the door and finding them would have been quite an unsuspected surprise.
