2940 JD 3Pt hitch

Anybody know how hard it is to replace the main lift shaft in one of these? Talking about the splined shaft that goes thru the top transmission cover under the seat that works the arms up & down. Had one side break today right where it comes thru the cover. I assume it is collateral damage from the previous owners BS repair that led to a near disaster with my disc mower yesterday. Long story short the hitch got twisted hard with a lot of weight coming to a sudden off balance stop. Guess it cracked it and the post driver finished it off today. Thanks for the help as always.

I was right in my original thought the technical name is the rockshaft. Any body popped the top off of one of these series tractors? Anything I should look out for? Think I am going to end up tackling it myself but would sure like some pointers. Thanks

It's been years since ive been in one. Get you a service manual it should have all the info you need.
