    Brahman Heifer Pic

There are Brahman cattle here in Wisconson and they don't freeze. :D

    what breed to pick

My point is that Brangus "crossbreed" is a Registered Breed of cattle today, since 1949. One doesn't refer to a Reg. Breed as "crossbreed". More Brangus are bred from Brangus to Brangus breeding than any other way.

SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABOUT BRANGUS COWS

When you work Brangus you have to lead them not push them. If you try to push them through a gate they will go everywhere ecept through the gate. Lead them. Get a sack of feed or bucket and lead where ever you want. I have led them from the back of my pickup just by shaking the bucket. When you...

    Simbrah on Herefords

I think that cross would work for you although you must chose for ease of calving. The 3/8ths Brahama would be the best chose not just a half blood (F1). The Brangus would work for you also and would make the herd look alike. Good luck

    what breed to pick

Brangus is an American breed. See the attached site. http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/brangus/

    what breed to pick

Alex Dees ranches in AZ and he raises Brangus. I would suggest that you go by his ranch and see what you think. I believe he has a web site, if not go to the IBBA web site to get his address.

5 Pics Herford heifers-My heads on the block

Tail heads to high??? Is that a Hereford thing? I have been raising registered cattle for over thirty years and I have never heard of a tail head to high. Ho well I am young yet. Nice to learn something new. :o

Yes you can buy better bulls. A better bull will turn your herd around in short order. Plan to purchase the best bull you can afford. A rule thumb is to estamiate the combined value of your top three cows and plan to spend at least that amount on a bull. The calves he produces should be better...

We bought a new bull (and other bull pics)

How much does the 15 mo bull weight and how much do you want for him? His sheath would work up here in Wisconsin. I found a table developed by LSU on the ALOT Angus Assocation web site that would tell you how good he is by comparing weight and age.

    How big is too big?

I understand about likes and dislikes of people, but the fact remands, more beef can be produced per acre with two smaller calves than one larger one and a large cow will require more grass than a smaller one. I can remember when we raised those frame score 10 cattle that were over six feet tall...

    How big is too big?

I may not have chosen a big enough number of pounds per arce to make this appliciable. But if you had two cows each weighting about 900 lbs and each producing a calf that weighted 400 lbs wouldn't that be more beef produced per acre that one cow weighting 1600 lbs and weaning a calf that...

    How big is too big?

Interesting. If an acre of land can support 2000 lbs of beef is it better to have smaller cow that will produce more calves or large cows that will produce maybe one calf? Just thinking.

    Went bull shopping.

That is a lot of money for a bull, even a good bull. In the 80's I saw two 1 million dollar bulls sell at Brinks in Sisterdale, TX. During the sale the wifes went shopping. Just as the high dollar bulls started to sell they returned. Seeing we guys on the other side of the room, one of the...

    New Bull!!!

A yearling bull should be fed to bring out its full potential. We feed ours on pasture about 1 - 1.5 % of their body weight per day with grain and good hay. If you start using him at 18mos to 2 years he is going to need all the finish you can put on him.

    Brangus heifers.

Brangus will work as a straight breed. The females are hightly prised and the steers will work in the feed lot and grade high choice. The bulls are polled and fertile and can adapt to most inviorments, even cold weather. Don't sell stright Brangus short.

    Brahman F1's

I learned that when you move the Brahman cross cattle you do better to lead them rather than try to drive them. They will follow you anywhere but if you try to drive them throught a gate they will go everywhere except through the gate, even over you.

    beefmaster

I think the Beefmaster has a little too much Brahman (1/2) in him to do well in PA. I think if you want the hybrit vigar from a Brahman inflience bull go with the reg. Brangus which has only 3/8ths Brahman. When bred to a english breed like Hereford you would have less than 1/4 Brahman. I think...

    Difference between breeds

Lynn: If your 1/2 interest cow is alone I would advise you to get another cow in addition to the one you want to eat. Cows need company otherwise they live a very stressed life. Good luck :)
