Angus Bull - PERRY Power Design 715

Consistent! Probably my favorite heifer bull. Good numbers, solid across the board. Good sized bull with an excellent confirmation, including good feet and hind end. Throws true. Easy keeper with a great disposition which he seems to pass on routinely. Makes some really good mamas. There...

too high BW EPD on heifers

Dee, We have one I87 calf on the ground so far, out of a Fix It daughter, CED 5 BW 2.8. The heifer weighed in at 92 lbs, ratio at 110 so far. Good thing she was 4 days early. She was big but she popped out like a pumpkin seed and was up and rolling w/in 5 minutes. Fine looking heifer. Keep...

    New Herd Bull

Sorry Doc, I just couldn't resist. It was meant in jest and references the discussion on the other thread regarding the good phenotype/bad Epd vs. bad phenotype/good Epd discussion. I don't really believe you would ignore phenotype, and I certainly do not advocate ignoring as useful a tool as...

    New Herd Bull

Just to clarify, the first couple of sentences in my previous reply should be taken as a sarcastic response, especially regarding the bull of the month comment to which I referred. Lee

    New Herd Bull

Yep, 1407 x EXT. Hard doers and "Hot Bull of the month." There's some hot bull here but it's not in the pedigree. I don't care for the low scrotal #'s, but it depends on what your herd looks like. Milk is high but that could be good or bad depending on what you need. The $EN to me is not...

    EXT and the genetic experiment

Do you remember if she calved to the AI date? No problems here with 878 BW's. Just interested. I've got a couple of EXT based females, so just more info to file away somewhere. Lee

    Angus Heifer Weaning Weights

Yeah, you're probably right. Not only that, sending live cattle across the border would probably cause the market to crash ;-)

    Angus Heifer Weaning Weights

Based on AHIR data, the AAA reported average weaning weight (205 adj) of heifers in 2004 as 590 lbs. AC Shower, I assumed a 75 lb BW for your heifer and got pretty much the same adj 205 that Jeanne did (just checking the math Jeanne ;-) ). 440 – 450 lb adj 205 is not good for an angus heifer...

    Salers

Um, no, not 'da bomb, but they are good mamas, easy calvers, and do make a nice F1. For whatever reason, they get docked a bit around here. Seen some really nice Char and angus crosses. Guy up the road puts angus on the char/saler x and has some nice calves, of course, that's probably due to...

    E-Bay Cattle Naming Auction

DON'T SELL IT! Offer the opportunity to invest in a dehydrated water enterprise. Dehydration would also desalinate. Transport costs would be extremely low and as dry as we are, should be a big hit!

    Good selling Cali breeds?

Good info. Now I don't have to worry about homozygous black. They're going to turn red eventually anyhow. Lee

    ET Training School

Try to find a school that offers a rebate on the school cost in the form of semen or AI equipment. We went through the Select Sires school, and it was a good one. As mentioned earlier, you need lots of cows to practice on. Expensive? Depends on your goals. Complete AI kit + tank should cost...

Advice (or comments) on epd's - followup

Ultrasounded heifers on Tuesday. The two 878’s that we kept looked good. The tech said he’s seen a lot of 878 progeny this year and confirmed my impression that 878 is doing pretty well. Not great, but consistently good. He said that 878 is really putting some good udders on his cows. Lee

Angus Bull SAV 8180 Traveler 004

No experience with him but he was part of a discussion over on ranchers.net a while back. Might check over there.

    AI Tech

Last time the tech was out was two years ago. Charge was $35 for travel and $10/head, not counting semen of course. We're not too far from you so the cost should be comparable. Lee

    Alliance I87

We had four 878 calves last year. I really liked them. Good straight lines top and bottom. Good thick calves, good feet, legs and hips. Had a bull out of one of the commercial angus that was a winner from day one. Weaned at 800 (205 adj) on 2.5 - 3 lbs of 12% supplemental. This one was...
